The co-inventors of these patent applications are Xcelerate Advisory Board members Dr. Anja Glisovic and Dr. Dilan Ellegala, both renowned experts in the field of medical technology. Xcelerate’s CEO, Michael O’Shea, expressed pride in the company’s approach of parallel development, testing, and intellectual property protection for its surgical device lines, and also unveiled the first images from its In-Tool-Optics (ITO) prototypes, which are covered by the filed patents.
The In-Tool-Optics series of surgical instruments and devices developed by Xcelerate bring a new “first-person view” to the surgical theater, according to Dr. Anja Glisovic. With the integration of cameras directly into surgical tools, surgeons are able to follow and perform procedures from the tool’s perspective, providing a more intuitive and precise viewpoint. This has the potential to significantly boost the precision and speed of surgical procedures, while also reducing the space necessary for multiple procedures.
Xcelerate is currently working on three different product lines within the In-Tool-Optics series: ITO-Responder, ITO-Clinic, and ITO-Infirmary. The ITO-Responder line is specifically designed for emergency responders, such as civilian and military paramedics. The ITO products in this line will be disposable and come with a rugged, reusable display for field use, along with inbuilt auto-adjustment features to optimize contrast and illumination. They will also conform to NATO standardizations and US regulations. The images unveiled by Xcelerate showcase one of the prototypes from the ITO-Responder line.
The ITO-Clinic product line is aimed at hospitals and operating theaters, providing more advanced features that can be adjusted manually by the surgeon. This includes access to the Color Rendering Index (CRI), which is crucial in identifying and distinguishing blood vessels in the red color palette, as well as other methods of graphical post-processing and measurements. Finally, the ITO-Infirmary line addresses the issue of outdated surgical tools by allowing retrofitting of existing surgical tools with the aforementioned functionalities, providing a solution that balances market and customer needs.
Xcelerate’s innovative approach to integrating cameras directly into surgical tools, providing a “first-person view” for surgeons, has the potential to revolutionize the field of surgical procedures. By improving precision, speed, and visualization during surgeries, Xcelerate’s In-Tool-Optics series has the potential to enhance patient outcomes and advance the field of medical technology. With the filed patent applications and the ongoing development of different product lines within the In-Tool-Optics series, Xcelerate continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and its mission of improving clinical care through non-medical engineering advancements.
